FRISSIRAS MUSEUM
Vlassis Frissiras founded the first homonymous museum of European and Greek art, transforming his love for contemporary, anthropocentric art into a museum jewel for the city centre. In the Plaka area of Athens, two elegant, neoclassical buildings a few meters apart house more than 3,000 works of contemporary, visual art (about 2,000 paintings and 1,000 drawings) by major artists such as Dimitris Mytaras and William Blake, while temporary exhibitions are held in the space. It was inaugurated on 27 November 2000 by the President of the Hellenic Republic
HISTORY:Vlassis Frissiras was born in a village of Corinthia, Valtsa, his family home was burned in retaliation by the Germans in 1943. Although he holds a law degree, his dream was to become a painter, so he started at an early age, mainly of a religious nature. Dimitris Mytaras, recommending him to buy paintings by young painters, helped him take the first steps. He was engaged in a new generation of painters, oriented towards anthropocentric works. This is the beginning of the collection, which spreads with Vlasis wandering around galleries in Europe with his painter friends and buying. He presented in various cities of the country, starting from Athens, where he surprised a lawyer who offered him a collection of about 1,000 paintings. The Frissiras collection is thus inscribed in the artistic history of the country.
His professional cooperation with the founder of the famous Bank, K. Kapsaskis, offered him financial stability and undivided help.
